Walter C. Kaufmann

General Manager

Walter joined in 2003.

He is responsible to lead the Meeru Team to fulfill the needs of the guests, provide for the Resort staff, maintain good relations with the local community and achieve the goals of the Owner.

Walter grew up in a hotel family, who own and operate a ski resort in the Austrian Alps; was Chef de Service, Hotel Belmont, Muerren, Switzerland; then in 1985, Hotel Manager, Hotel Hubertushof, Stuben am Arlberg, Austria; then from 1987, Assistant Front Officer Manager, then Night Manager, then Assistant Food & Beverage Manager for Southern Sun Hotels, Johannesburg, South Africa; then in 1990, Food & Beverage Manager for Holiday Inn, Dalian, then in 1991, Holiday Inn, Urumqi and in 1992, Green Lake Hotel, Kunming in China; then In 1994, he was employed by Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, Malaysia ,first as Food & Beverage Manager, Berjaya Tioman; then in 1996, promoted as Executive Assistant Manager; then in 1997, promoted as Resident Manager, Berjaya Langkawi; then in 1998, promoted as General Manager, first at Berjaya Rendang; then in 1999, at Berjaya Langkawi; then in 2000, at Berjaya La Morne, Mauritius; then in 2001, at Berjaya Tioman.EndFragment

Areef Ahmed

Director of Operations

Areef joined in 2000.

He is responsible for the daily operations of the Front Office, Guest Services, Sports, Entertainment & Activities, Housekeeping, Guest Transport, Security, Gift Shop and Clinic Departments.

Areef graduated with a National Diploma, Institute of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Operations, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Maldives, in affiliation with Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, UK, in 1998. Then he graduated with a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management, Taylor’s College School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Malaysia, in affiliation with The Academy of Toulouse, Touluose, France, in 2006. After which, he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality Management, Taylor’s University, Malaysia, in affiliation with The Academy of Toulouse, Touluose, France, in 2013.

Areef began work in the Maldives in 1996, as Airport Representative, Nippon Travels, Male; then in 1999, as Food & Beverage Manager, Ari Beach Resort. In 2000, he joined Crown & Champa Resorts, as Personnel & Purchasing Supervisor, Velavaru Island Resort; then was transferred as Food & Beverage Supervisor; then in 2002, was transferred as Corporate Trainee, Front Office, Meeru Island Resort, where he worked in Reception, Night Audit, Reservations, Cost Control and Stores; then in 2003, was assigned as Special Projects Manager, to oversee the implementation of the Micros-Fidelio Property Management software system; then in 2004, promoted as Executive Housekeeper; then in 2007, as Operations Manager, the newly opened Meeru Village; then in 2007, as Sales & Marketing Manager; then in 2008, as Personnel Manager; then in 2009, as Human Resources Manager, Gasfinolhu Island Resort; then in 2010, as pre-opening Human Resources Manager, Vilamendhoo Island Resort; then in 2013, then in 2013, promoted to his current position.

Areef is married, makes his home in Male’, Maldives, enjoys playing football, volleyball, tennis, SCUBA diving and reading. He speaks basic French and Japanese.

Mohamed Thoufeeq

Sales & Marketing Manager

Thoufeeq joined in 2002.

Graduated with Higher Diploma in Hotel Management, Taylor’s Collage of Hospitality and Tourism, Malaysia. Affiliated with Acadamy of Toulouse, Toulouse, France (2005 – 2006)

Thoufeeq started his work experience in 2001, as Assistant Housekeeper, Velavaru Island Resort; then in 2004, Personnel and Training Supervisor, Velavaru Island Resort; then, in 2005, Management Trainee, Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort, Langkawi, Malaysia; then, in 2006, Assistant Reservations Manager, Meeru Island Resort, Maldives; then, in 2008, Reservations Manager, Meeru Island Resort, Maldives; then, in 2008, Assistant Housekeeping Manager, Carnival Cruise Lines, Miami, Florida; then, in 2010, Reservations Manager, Meeru Island Resort; then, in 2013 promoted as Reservations Manager, Crown & Champa Resorts; then, in 2014, Sales & Marketing Manager, Crown & Champa Resorts, his current position.

Thoufeeq is married and makes his home in Hulhumale’. He enjoys swimming, snorkeling, fishing, reading, writing and watching movies and TV series.

His language skills include Hindi and basic French.

Nabah Hussain

Reservations Manager

Nabah joined in 2012.


He is responsible for the Reservations Department.

He graduated in Cambridge “O” Level in Muhibuddin School in Addu City, S. Hithadhoo, Maldives in 2007. Then in 2010, completed his Foundation in Business Management & Marketing, Australian Colleague of Business and Technology, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Nabah began his career as a Reservations Assistant in 2012 and then in 2013, promoted to Reservations Supervisor, Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa; then in 2016, transferred as Reservations Supervisor and then in 2017, promoted to Reservations Manager, his current role in Meeru Island Resort & Spa.

Nabah is single and makes his home in Addu City, He enjoys listening to music, playing billiard and football. He speaks fluent Dhivehi, English, Singhalese & Hindi.

Mohamed Zaeem

Sales & Marketing Manager

Zaeem joined in 2004.

He is responsible for the Sales & Marketing Department.

Zaeem graduated with a National Diploma, Institute of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Operations, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Maldives, in affiliation with Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, UK, in 2006.

He began his work experience in 2000, in the Maldives, as Waiter, Kuramathi Tourist Island; then in 2002, as Waiter, Fesdu Fun Island; then in 2004, as Receptionist, Vakarufalhi Island Resort; then in 2005; promoted as Head Receptionist; then in 2007, transferred to Meeru Island Resort & Spa as Front Office Supervisor; then in 2008, transferred to Gasfinolhu Island Resort as Front Office Supervisor; then in 2010, promoted to Reservation Supervisor; then in 2012, transferred to Meeru Island Resort & Spa  as Assistant Reservation Manager; then in 2012 transferred to Assistant Executive Housekeeper; then in 2015, promoted to Sales & Marketing Manager, his current position.

Zaeem is married, makes his home in H.Dh. Nellaidhoo, Maldives and enjoys playing football and volleyball.

Mohamed Nazim

Food & Beverage Manager

Nazim joined in 2008.

He is responsible for the Food and Beverage operations on the island.

Nazim completed his Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in International Hospitality Management from Taylor’s University, Malaysia in affiliated with Toulouse University, France in 2013.

He began his career in 2001 until 2008, as Accounts Clerk and the positions of  Receptionist, Head Receptionist, F&B Supervisor and Assistant F&B Manager, Vakarufalhi Island Resort & Spa, Maldives; then in 2008, F&B Operations Manager, then in 2009, Assistant Sales & Marketing Manager and then in 2011, re-designated as F&B Operations Manager and then again as Sales & Marketing Manager, Meeru Island Resort & Spa; then in 2014, Sport Entertainment & Activities (SEA) Manager, Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa; then in 2017, Assistant Food & Beverage Manager, Meeru Island Resort & Spa; then again in 2017,  temporarily assignment as Acting Director of Operations, Champa Central Hotel, Male’, Maldives and again in 2017, Food & Beverage Manager, his current position.

Nazim is married, makes his home in Filadhoo, Maldives and enjoys playing football, bodu beru drums and being social.

His language skills include English, Dhivehi and basic French.

Ronaldo Delgreco

Executive Chef

Ronaldo joined in 2010.

He is responsible for the food served to our guests and staff, more than 4,000 meals each day.  Quality, variety, taste, presentation, and the staff and budgets to prepare everything. Food specifications, purchasing, health and safety standards, training, 7 kitchens, 10 outlets, 125 staff.  Most food is produced from “scratch” at the Resort, a challenge given the logistics of supply and storage. The “Chef” is a sometime miracle worker and always hard at work.

Ronaldo graduated from the Motherwell Technical College, in 1990, and the Perth College of Further Education, Scotland, UK.

Ronaldo began his work experience in 1978, as Commis Chef, Peebles Hotel Hydro, Peebleshire, Scotland; then in 1980, as Chef

Zaid Mohamed

Sports, Entertainment and Activities Manager

Zaid joined in 2008.

He is responsible for the daily operations of the Sports, Entertainment & Activities (SEA).

Zaid graduated with a BTEC National Diploma in Hotel Catering and Institutional Operations, from Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies Maldives, in affiliation with Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, UK, in 2001. After which, he graduated with a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management, Taylor’s College School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Malaysia, in affiliation with The Academy of Toulouse, Touluose, France, in 2013.

Zaid began work in the Maldives in 2002, as Sales Person, Alpha Duty Free, Male International Airport, Male’; then in 2003, promoted as Supervisor, Alpha Duty Free, Male International Airport, Male’. In 2007, Secretory, Kondey Magistrate Court, Ga Kondey; then in 2007 started working as Site Supervisor in Mark Company Pvt. Ltd, Male’. In 2008, Human Resources Administrator, Meeru Island Resort & Spa; then in 2011 transferred as Sports, Entertainment and Activities Supervisor; then in 2014, promoted as Assistant Sports, Entertainment and Activities Manager; then in 2015 promoted to his current position.

Zaid is married, makes his home in Ga. Kondey, Maldives, and enjoys playing football, volleyball, swimming.

Sina Schwebler

Guest Services Manager

Sina joined in 2016.

She is responsible for the Guest Services Department.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Tourism Management at the Heilbronn University, Germany in 2012; then in 2015, Master of Arts in International Tourism Management, Heilbronn University, Germany in 2015 with a sponsored award given by the Villa College, Malé, Maldives.

Sina began work as an Intern at the travel agency Flugboerse Markus Strebel , Bad Kreuznach, Germany in 2005; then again in 2005, an apprenticeship, Hotel Manageress , Schlosshotel Monrepos, Ludwigsburg, Germany; then in 2010, marketing and business Intern, Miles & More International Gmbh (Lufthansa), Neu-Isenburg, Germany; then in 2012, research consultant, Dine German Institute For Sustainable Development E.V.,Heilbronn, Stuttgart, Germany; the again in 2012, graduate assistant in the internship office of the faculty of International Business, Heilbronn University; and in 2014, graduate assistant for the University of Heilbronn, Germany; then in 2015, Sina started working as customer service freelancer at Kafis Logistics, Germany and was travelling and working worldwide. Then in 2016, she joined Meeru Island Resort & Spa as Guest Services Manager in her current position.

Sina is single, makes her home in Germany, and enjoys traveling, swimming and tennis as hobbies. Her native language is German and she is fluent in English and has basic knowledge in French, Spanish and Dutch.

Pradip Nair

Financial Controller

Pradip joined in 2015.

He is responsible for the Finance Department, including Stores and Purchasing.

Pradip graduated with a Degree in Commerce from Calcutta University, Calcutta, India in 1985.

He began his work experience in 1986 as Accounts Assistant, Oberoi Hotels, Calcutta, India; then in 1994, Accounts Assistant, Saudi Oberoi Resort, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; then in 1994, Chief Accountant, preopening Taj Hotels, India; then, in 2005, transferred to Taj Exotica, Maldives; then in 2007, Financial Controller, Soneva Fushi, Maldives; then, in 2013, Financial Controller, Auromatrix Hotel, Kerala, India; then in in 2015, Financial Controller, Meeru Island Resort, his current position.

Pradip is married, makes his home in Trivandrum, India. He enjoys traveling and reading. His language skills include Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali.

Sobah Ibrahim

Information Technology Manager

Sobah joined in 2006.

He is responsible for the IT Department which oversees all property management and telecommunications systems for service to guests and staff.

He graduated with a London General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level), in 2002; and Advance Level in 2004. After which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) In Information Technology, Asia Pacific University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2013.

Sobah began his work experience in 2005, in the Maldives, as a Teacher, for Mathematics and General Science, Ihavanadhoo School; then in 2006, as Junior Network Administrator, Meeru Island Resort; then in 2007, promoted as Network Administrator; then in 2010, promoted as Assistant IT Manager; then in 2014, promoted as IT Manager, his current position.

Sobah is single and makes his home in Ihavandhoo, Maldives. He enjoys playing tennis, football and undertaking research on work related subjects.

Hamid Naseem

Chief Engineer

Hamid joined in 2012.

He is responsible for the Maintenance Department which keeps the Resort in good working order including the Power House, reverse osmosis fresh water plants, the sewage treatment plant, the waste disposal systems, the boat fleet, the vehicles and the facilities which cater to the 600 guests and 650 staff, all living on Meeru. He is also in charge of the Fire Brigade.

Hamid graduated with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, INTI College, Malaysia, in 2005; following which he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mechanical), University of Bradford, UK, in 2007.

He began his work experience in 1997, in the Maldives, as Marine Mechanic, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company; then in 2007, promoted as Engineer, Vehicle Fleet (heavy equipment) and Marine Fleet; then in 2008, in the Mechanical and Electrical section including machining, welding and metal fabrication; then in 2009, promoted as Senior Engineer; then in 2010, promoted as Head of Engineering; then in 2011, as Senior Engineer, MVK Maldives Pvt. Ltd.; then in 2012, as Chief Engineer, Meeru, his current position.

Hamid is married, makes his home in Male’, Maldives, and enjoys playing football and singing karaoke.

Shiyam Moosa

Human Resources Manager

Shiyam joined in 2001.

He is responsible for the Human Resources Department which includes recruitment, payroll, training and development, staff housing, welfare and benefits.

Lali Khorkheli

Executive Housekeeper

Lali joined in 2014.

She is responsible for the Housekeeping Department and the Laundry, which services 600 guests and 650 staff, daily.

Lali graduated with a Degree in Teaching, Sulxan Saba Orbeliani State University, Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1993.

She began her work experience in 2001, as Room Attendant/Public Area Cleaner, Sheraton Park Lane Hotel, London; then in 2004, as Uniform Attendant, Courtyard By Marriott, Tbilisi; then in 2005, as Housekeeping Supervisor, Tbilisi Marriott Hotel; then in 2009, as Housekeeping Manager, Radisson BLU Iveria Hotel, Tbilisi; then in 2011, promoted as Executive Housekeeping Manager; then in 2013, promoted as Cluster Executive Housekeeping Manager, Radisson BLU Hotel and Park Inn By Radisson, Abu Dhabi; then in 2014, as Executive Housekeeper, Meeru Island Resort, Maldives, her current position.

Lali is married, makes her home in Tbilisi, and enjoys traveling. Her native language is Georgian and she speaks Russian and Greek.

Mohamed Riyaz

Guest Transport Manager

Riyaz joined in 1999.

He is responsible for the daily operations of the Guest Transports. 

Riyaz graduated with a BTEC National Diploma in Hotel Catering and Institutional Operations, from Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies Maldives, in affiliation with Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, UK, in 2006.

Riyaz began work in the Maldives in 1993, as a Teacher, AA. Maalhos School then in 1996, as a Customs Officer, Maldives Customs, then in 1998, as a Receptionist, Bandos Island Resort. In 1999, Receptionist, Meeru Island Resort & Spa; then in 2002 promoted as Front Office Supervisor; then in 2003, promoted as Assistant Front Office Manager; then in 2005, promoted to Front Office Manager, then in 2008, transferred as Guest Service Manager, then in 2008, transferred to his current position.

Riyaz is married, makes his home in LH. Kurendhoo, Maldives, and enjoys playing football, volleyball, swimming, watching movies and drawing.

Dr. Muhammad Ishaque Sanjrani

Resident Doctor

Dr. Ishaque joined in 2012.

He is responsible for the care of our guests and staff, serves on the Resort Health & Safety Committee and oversees the periodic medical examination of our staff for Public Health matters.

He graduated with an M.B.B.S., from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro/Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan, in 2001. After which, he served various posts in Sindh, Pakistan, including in 2002, as House Physician, Department of Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases, Nawab Shah Medical College and Hospital; then as House Physician, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, in Neurosurgery, Surgery, I.C.U., and General Medicine; and then as a Post Graduate Trainee in Pediatrics.

In 2007, Dr. Ishaque was employed as Senior Medical Officer, Ministry of Public Health and Family, Maldives, and was posted on various local islands; then in 2011, was posted to Hulhumale’ Hospital. In 2012, Dr. Ishaque was employed by Meeru Island Resort in his current position.

Dr. Ishaque is married, makes his home in Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan. He enjoys cricket and sailing. His language skills include Dhivehi (Maldivian), Urdu and Hindi.

Mohamed Latheef

Night Manager

Latheef joined in 2001.

He is responsible for all nighttime Resort operations between 1100 and 0700.

He graduated with a BTEC National Diploma, Institute of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Operations, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Maldives, in affiliation with Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, UK, in 2005.

After which, he graduated with a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management, Taylor’s College School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Malaysia, in affiliation with The Academy of Touloues, Touluose, France, in 2009.

Latheef began work in the Maldives in 1989, as Assistant Supervisor, Coffee Shop, Bandos Island Resort; and then in 1992, as Supervisor, Coffee Shop, Kanifinolhu Island Resort.

In 2001, Latheef joined Crown & Champa Resorts, as Food & Beverage Manager, Velavaru Island Resort; then in 2003, as Bar & Coffee Shop Manager, Meeru Island Resort; then in 2006, as Assistant Front Office Manager; then in 2007, promoted as Executive Housekeeper; then as Front Office Manager; then in 2009, as Guest Services Manager; then in 2010, as preopening Front Office Manager, Vilamendhoo Island Resort, then in 2011, as Front Office Manager, Gasfinolhu; then in 2012, as Night Manager, Meeru, his current position.

Latheef is single, and makes his home on Male’, Maldives. He enjoys playing football, volleyball, fishing and SCUBA diving, and listening to music. Latheef speaks basic German.
